With all Dyson vacuums, you should clean the filter about once a month with normal use. It's important to do this by using just cold water and running the pleated paper filter first under the tap, followed by the rest of the filter until the water runs clear. Don't use detergent and don't place it in the washing machine or the dishwasher as the hot temperatures and steam could damage the advanced filter.
